HP Mini 210>Portability is crucial to a netbook. Small and light with super battery life, netbooks (like HP's Mini 210 , above) are meant to get you online when you're on the go. Most have one of Intel's Atom CPUs, which are more energy-efficient but far less powerful than the processors that larger laptops use. This is fine for checking e-mail, visiting Facebook, and tweaking business documents. Digital video and 3D gaming are not their forte.

The good news is that a small screen and an anemic CPU mean lots of battery life; a good netbook will run more than 6 hours between charges, and some models last almost 10 hours.
Think of netbooks as companion devices--something you'll pull out on the plane or in the classroom, or use to surf the Web from the comfort of a couch. Most models start at about $300; optional extras can increase the price to $500 or so.

VERNONIA, Ore. -- Vernonia students and teachers said they were thrilled Monday when police returned 16 laptops that were stolen last month.
The computers were swiped from Vernonia Middle School on Dec. 10 or Dec. 11. There were no signs of forced entry in the portable classroom where the new laptops were kept. A Vernonia resident found the laptops Dec. 14 and called police. Investigators said the thieves admitted to the burglary after questioning and returned the computers. Two adults and several children were involved in the theft, police said, and charges are pending. District officials said the floods and sputtering economy didn't leave money to replace the laptops. "There are good kids here and they were crying, saying, 'We don't have anything and people are taking what we do have,'" said Vernonia Middle School Principal Nate Underwood. Get one that's got a wireless assistant built into it so that it can just pick up connections around you without having to install antyhing. Otherwise you're going to have to buy a whole bunch of crap in order to have internet access.

The above answers are good, there is no limit to how many laptops you can carry with you, you might want to insure anything you put in your check-in bags as the general rule of travel is "if you value something, carry it on, and don't check it in."
